Yamal strikes early as Barcelona beat Betis 5-2
Barcelona beat Real Betis 5-2 in La Liga, Spain's top division, with Lamine Yamal opening the scoring after nine minutes. It was first against third. The leaders struck first. The Guardian
Yamal is 19. He found space at the edge of the box and bent the ball into the far top corner. Nine minutes gone, Barcelona ahead, Betis chasing.
Hansi Flick is Barcelona's coach. After the game he said he told Yamal he was proud of him because he played a fantastic game. That praise carried weight. Flick does not hand it out lightly. The Guardian
It was not all smooth. Yamal ended up on the ground after an incident with Facundo Bernal during the match. He got up and got on with it. Barcelona went on to score five. FC Barcelona
There is history here. Yamal was named LALIGA EA SPORTS Player of the Season for 2025/2026, an award presented by LALIGA in partnership with EA. Before that, he was Player of the Month for December, a month in which he scored from the penalty spot away to Real Betis and away to Villarreal. LaLiga
What makes this stand out is the timing. Nine minutes into a big away test, a teenager sets the tone. For casual fans, that is the joy of Yamal. He plays with freedom, and Barcelona feed off it.
