Tamil drama Mayilaa has won the Jury Award for Best Feature Narrative at the 21st Tasveer Film Festival in Seattle, Deadline reported.

Directed by Semmalar Annam, the film led the juried winners at this year's edition. The festival ran from 13 to 18 October in Seattle.

Mayilaa stars P. Melody Dorcas, Geetha Kailasam, Shudar Kodi and Sathya Maruthani, according to Deadline. It arrived in Seattle with festival mileage behind it. It had already screened at the Dharamshala International Film Festival, the Singapore International Film Festival and the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

In Seattle it held a place of honour. Mayilaa was the Centerpiece Night film at the 2026 festival, a gala slot in the programme, and the presentation was led by film-maker Pa. Ranjith, according to Tasveer. It screened on 16 October.

The Jury Award for Best Feature Documentary went to The Gymnasts of Fisherman Colony, directed by Habiba Nosheen, Deadline reported. The film follows young women taking up gymnastics in a part of Pakistan where the sport is uncommon for girls. Its executive producers are Mariska Hargitay, Trish Adlesic and Malala Yousafzai. In Seattle it was listed for a 3:05 PM screening on 17 October, according to the festival schedule.

The Jury Award for Best Short went to The Last Glance, directed by Kamran Faiq. It stars Adnan Shah Tipu and Areej Ayub Hussain, Deadline reported. Short and sharp. That is often where new directors first break through.

The juried winners were chosen by a panel led by Aparna Purohit, chief executive of Aamir Khan Productions, Deadline reported. The stakes go beyond Seattle. Tasveer is the only Oscar-qualifying South Asian film festival in the world, according to Tasveer, which means winning films can become eligible for consideration for the Academy Awards.

The scale was large. The 2026 edition showcased 136 films from 16 countries across more than 25 languages. The programme included 20 World Premieres, 4 North American Premieres and 4 U.S. Premieres.

Alongside the screenings, the third annual Tasveer Film Market distributed $170,000 in awards across three competitive pitch events, Deadline reported. That market is where new projects chase funding. For fans, this means the names on next year's poster may already have been picked.
