Quinta Brunson says Betty Boop film will defy expectations

Quinta Brunson says her Betty Boop film is still taking shape — and it will surprise people.
The actress, creator, writer and producer gave the update during an appearance on Good Morning America, as reported on 20 October by Deadline. Brunson is developing the project and will star as Betty Boop herself.
Host Robin Roberts asked her what about Betty Boop made her want to make a film. Brunson said she was drawn in by the story of how the character was created. She described the movie as “really incredible” and said it was still in process.
The film is being made with Fleischer Studios, the company that owns the Betty Boop character created by Max Fleischer, according to the same report. Brunson’s own company, Fifth Chance Productions, is producing.
She is teaming with Mark Fleischer to tell Betty Boop’s origin story, ABC News reported. Mark Fleischer is the grandson of animator Max Fleischer.
The story will trace the origin and evolution of Betty Boop through the eyes of her creator Max Fleischer, as outlined by Good Morning America. Brunson said the film looks wider than one character. It covers an era of animation.
She added that the story will be unlike anything anyone expects.
For fans, this means patience. There is no release date yet. The work is still under way.
Brunson stars in ABC’s Abbott Elementary. She has also moved further into animation voice work. She voiced Dr. Fuzzby in Disney’s Zootopia 2, and she voices Sherri in the animated film The Cat in the Hat.
That film is set to open in theatres on 6 November. Brunson’s casting as Betty Boop in a feature film, a full-length cinema release, was first detailed by Variety.
