Linda Cardellini wanted to wear Betsy Palmer's cropped 1980 haircut as Pamela Voorhees in Crystal Lake.

The actor, who stars as Pam Voorhees in the Friday the 13th prequel series — a story set before the original films — told Deadline she pushed for the full recreation. The team even tried it briefly.

Series creator Brad Caleb Kane said no. He argued it would stray into cosplay territory, meaning it would look like a costume rather than a character living her life.

The timeline settled it. The trailer opens on Cardellini as Pamela in 1971, as reported by Variety. That leaves almost 10 years in-story to reach Palmer's look from the 1980 film. Cardellini said the production decided they had time to get to that hairdo.

Crystal Lake is scheduled to stream on Peacock on 15 Oct. Peacock has released a full trailer for the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In this version, Pam is struggling to grieve after her son Jason drowned the summer before. Her familiar blue cable-knit sweater survives as part of the look. The hair does not, at least not yet.

Cardellini is well known for another famous haircut. She played Velma Dinkley in the 2002 and 2004 live-action Scooby-Doo movies.

What makes this stand out is how much work goes into holding back. Fans know exactly where Pamela ends up. The show wants to earn that image slowly, one choice at a time.
