Crown Prince Christian of Denmark has taken his place at the top table. The heir to the throne attended his first state banquet on Monday evening at Christiansborg Palace, according to Royal Central.

A state banquet is the formal dinner a country lays on for a visiting head of state. This one was hosted by his parents, King Frederik X and Queen Mary, as reported by Town & Country.

The guests of honour were President Tô Lâm and First Lady Ngô Phương Ly of Vietnam. The couple began a three-day state visit to Denmark on Monday.

Christian was part of the official welcome. He stood in the greeting line alongside the King and Queen and the President and First Lady before everyone moved through into the ballroom for dinner.

He dressed for the occasion in full ceremony. He wore the red gala uniform of the Royal Life Guards.

For dinner itself, he was seated next to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. Seating at a banquet of this kind is carefully planned. Every place carries rank and meaning.

What makes this stand out for royal-watchers is the shift it signals. A first state banquet moves a young royal from family events to state events. It is a short walk into the ballroom. It is also a clear step into public duty.

The evening gave Christian a front-row view of how Denmark hosts. Greet, process, dine, converse. He did it beside the prime minister, in uniform, and under full lights.
