DICE and Bungie are reportedly both interested in making Star Wars Battlefront 3.

The claim comes from the Quartermann rumours column, as quoted by VGC. Neither studio nor Lucasfilm has announced such a project. For now it is only a rumour.

The report surfaced in an unusual place. It appeared in a “final” issue of EGM, the former Electronic Gaming Monthly, put together by ex-staff. That issue was sent to backers of a Kickstarter project for a retrospective book on EGM history.

According to the column quoted by VGC, Lucasfilm has been looking for a development partner to make a Battlefront follow-up. A development partner here means an outside studio hired to build the game. DICE is named as one of two major studios circling the project.

Bungie is named as the other. The column says Bungie, the studio behind Halo, Destiny and Marathon, could take on Battlefront if the work is not given to DICE. Again, that is the rumour’s telling, not a confirmed plan.

There has been no new Battlefront entry since Star Wars Battlefront 2, released in 2017. Both that game and the earlier Star Wars Battlefront were developed by DICE and published by EA. That happened during EA’s long-term exclusivity period for Star Wars games, when EA held the main rights to make them.

Interest in the series has not faded. Star Wars Battlefront 2 has seen a recent player surge. Even so, a former DICE developer said fans should not expect a Battlefront 3 announcement any time soon, as reported by IGN in May 2025.

For fans, this means patience. A rumour column can point to conversations in the industry. Only an announcement from Lucasfilm, DICE, Bungie or EA would confirm that Battlefront is marching back.
