The guitar at the heart of Ryan Coogler's Sinners has left the screen for a museum case.

Sinners: Sounds That Summon, an exhibition dedicated to the music of the film, is on view Oct. 20 through March 14 at the California African American Museum, according to Variety. It is presented in collaboration with Warner Bros. Archives.

The show is co-organised by CAAM and Warner Bros. Archives and curated by Imani Y. Haynes. It is described as the first museum exhibition devoted to the music of Sinners.

The display is centred on the guitar played by protagonist Sammie 'Preacher Boy' Moore. Visitors will also find the costumes worn by Smoke and Stack, the twin characters at the centre of the story, alongside the Club Juke sign from the film's key venue.

Sinners arrives with awards history already attached. The film earned 16 nominations at the 98th Academy Awards, the most received by any film in history, Variety reported. It won four Oscars: best actor for Michael B. Jordan, original screenplay for Coogler, cinematography for Autumn Durald Arkapaw and original score for Ludwig Göransson.

What makes this stand out is the focus. Rather than costumes and props in general, the exhibition treats the instruments, stage clothes and club signage as tools of music-making. For fans, this means a close look at how the sound of the film was built and staged.

CAAM, the museum in Exposition Park that documents Black art and history in California, hosts changing art and history shows through the year. Sounds That Summon puts a box-office hit in that setting, with the film's guitar leading the room.
