The Prestige Returns to Cinemas in 70mm and IMAX for 20th Anniversary

Christopher Nolan's The Prestige is returning to cinemas for its 20th anniversary.
Disney has set Jan. 29, 2027 for the re-release, according to Variety. The date lands three months after the anniversary itself. It puts the film back on the calendar in the early-year slot often used for revivals and awards-season holdovers.
The return comes with an upgrade. The film will play on 70mm film and IMAX screens for the first time, according to Variety. 70mm is a large film format that carries more picture detail than standard 35mm prints. IMAX is a giant-screen system with its own cameras, projectors and hall-filling sound.
Nolan said he was excited to bring the film back to the big screen. He pointed to the chance for audiences to see it on 70mm and in IMAX for the first time.
The film first opened on Oct. 20, 2006. That makes the announcement on Oct. 20, 2026 exactly 20 years to the day since its debut. The story follows a decades-long rivalry between two stage magicians in Victorian London, played by Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman. Each man tries to outdo the other with a defining trick.
Nolan co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan. He produced it alongside Emma Thomas and Aaron Ryder. Thomas has produced Nolan's features across his career, while Ryder joined as a producing partner on the title.
The original run generated US$100 million at the global box office, meaning ticket sales in the United States and Canada plus the rest of the world, as reported on Oct. 20, 2026 by Variety. Short line for the number. The film went on to earn two Oscar nominations. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the Oscars each year to honour film achievement.
For fans, this means a first chance to hear the stage illusions and rival acts in an IMAX auditorium. It also means a rare outing for a 20-year-old print-era title in 70mm. Details on cinemas and ticket-sale dates have not yet been announced.
