NPR's Steve Inskeep interviewed political analyst Ron Brownstein on October 21, 2026, about Republicans who are angry with the Trump administration but continue to vote for the Republican Party. The conversation aired on NPR's morning news program, Morning Edition, under the title "Why Republicans frustrated with Trump's policies continue to support the party". Inskeep asked Brownstein what motivates those Republicans to keep supporting the party.

Brownstein is a columnist for Bloomberg Opinion, where he writes about politics and policy. He is also an analyst for CNN and has written or edited seven books. NPR said audio of the interview would be available later on October 21.

Brownstein has written recently about the party and the president. On October 13, 2026, Bloomberg Opinion published his column "Trump Is Showing Again Why Presidents Lose Power So Fast." A week later, on October 20, the outlet published his column "Republican and Democratic States Are Headed for Gridlock," which examines partisan deadlock in Republican and Democratic states.

Earlier in the year, Brownstein wrote about how Americans view Trump's policies. In an April 14, 2026, column titled "Trump's Least Popular Issue? Most of Them," he said that the border wall and the 2017 tax cut, two of the president's signature policies, divide the country much more evenly between opposition and support than his least popular issues do.
