Amazon's fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has released its official trailer for season three, and the first four episodes arrive on Prime Video on 11 November 2026.

The trailer, released on 21 October, shows Sauron claiming the One Ring, the ring of power at the centre of the story. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the season takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron's push to forge that ring. Deadline says the season is set seven years after the events of season two.

Sauron is played by Charlie Vickers. In the trailer he sits on a throne amid volcanic magma, with the words "Rule them all" on screen. Galadriel, played by Morfydd Clark, is shown knocked off her horse and overpowered by a Ringwraith in a forest. Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Gandalf (Daniel Weyman) are seen rallying forces across Middle-earth.

High King Gil-galad, played by Benjamin Walker, tells an Elven council that the enemy has twice their number. Elendil, played by Lloyd Owen, is shown walking with a large army. The trailer also includes a shot of the Balrog, voiced by Simon Pegg, according to Deadline.

Showrunner J.D. Payne said season three has a full-on villain in a way that was quite different before. His fellow showrunner Patrick McKay said the season is darker and more dangerous. Payne and McKay are also executive producers, along with Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell and Charlotte Brandstrom. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.

The release date was first set out earlier in the year. Amazon's newsroom confirmed the 11 November premiere in May, and Variety reported the autumn date ahead of an Amazon presentation.

What this means for viewers is simple. Prime Video subscribers get the first four episodes on the premiere date, and the Prime Video title page is already listed as "Coming soon", with the tagline "The One Ring rises. Middle-earth falls." The page also lists a three-minute bonus video, "Bringing Season 3 Creatures to Life".

For the people who make the show, the trailer is one of the last public steps before the season reaches screens. Hundreds of crew members, writers and actors spent months on the production, and the premiere date is the point where that work becomes something audiences can watch.

Amazon has not announced how many episodes the full season will run in total.
