CD Projekt Red has published patch notes for Cyberpunk 2077's 2.5 update, the Edgerunners 2 update, which adds cross-platform mod support powered by mod.io, a third-party platform for distributing player-made game content. The update launches October 22 on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to the patch notes on cyberpunk.net. The Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac App Store versions are slated for "days to follow."

The mod feature lets players browse and install a selection of player-created mods from the in-game menu. The Verge reports that mod support is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, with more mods to become available over time. The initial catalogue is curated rather than open-ended, and the publisher has not been reported to have set a timetable for expanding it.

On the gameplay side, the update adds a Double Trouble perk option that allows dual-wielding pistols and revolvers, meaning a character can fire a separate handgun from each hand. CD Projekt Red staff had previously said the free update would include cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle, in a forum post dated September 29.

The update also brings Edgerunners-inspired content. It includes a new side quest named Clampdown, which is set before the events of the Edgerunners story, along with a gear set based on the character Weak Kingsley and a new radio station playing Cyberpunk: Edgerunners music. A separate side quest sends players on a tour of the city guided by Richard Night.

Several quality-of-life additions round out the release. Saves are grouped by playthrough and sorted accordingly, DLSS 4.5 support is added, and the update introduces glasses-free 3D effects. Console players also get an FOV slider, which adjusts the field of view, or how much of the scene is visible on screen.

The studio's announcement ran in several languages. A French-language version and an Italian-language version of the Edgerunners 2 announcement and patch notes were posted on cyberpunk.net, and the cyberpunk.net homepage lists the 2.5 update with new content arriving October 22 and patch notes available. The update was first announced on CD Projekt Red's press site on October 20.

In my view, the feature with the longest reach is the mod.io integration rather than the perk or the cosmetic content. A single in-game browser that spans PC, Mac and three console generations is a different proposition from a PC-only mod manager, and the practical questions are how the catalogue grows and how installs and load order behave across hardware and certification regimes that have historically handled user-generated content differently. Those answers will come from the next several patches, not from the first announcement.

For players, the near-term change is concrete: a menu-driven route to community content on consoles, a dual-wielding build option, and a set of Edgerunners-themed additions, all arriving on October 22 for the platforms listed above. Anyone planning to test the mod browser should note that the Switch 2 and Mac App Store builds follow later.
