Chicago Med Season 12 Premiere Draws 8.8 Million Viewers Across Platforms

Chicago Med's Season 12 premiere reached 8.8 million viewers across all platforms over seven days, according to Variety. The figure adds together viewing on traditional TV and on streaming services, so it counts people who watched later as well as on the night.
The episode aired on NBC on Oct. 7, 2026, and was the top broadcast show of that night. It was one of several returns for Dick Wolf's One Chicago franchise, which also brought back Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Variety reports that the three shows ranked as NBC's top three of the season so far when seven days of viewing are counted.
The age group that matters most to advertisers is viewers aged 18 to 49, and networks track their ratings closely. Chicago Med's premiere rating in that group rose 19% from its Season 11 premiere in 2025. Chicago Fire's Season 15 premiere was up 9% from its Season 14 premiere, and Chicago P.D.'s Season 14 premiere was up 3% from Season 13.
Chicago Med and Chicago Fire also did better on Peacock, NBC's streaming service, than their previous season premieres. After seven days, both shows improved on total viewers and on the 18-49 rating, Variety reports.
The franchise was not the only NBC drama back that week. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit started its 28th season on Oct. 8. Its 18-49 rating rose 1% from the Season 27 premiere in 2025.
For the people behind the cameras, a new season means work for a large cast and crew, and the shows' results are what keep those jobs moving from one season to the next.
