Chris Pratt Confirms Star-Lord Will Return to the MCU, Without a Date

Chris Pratt has confirmed that Star-Lord will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the shared film world built by Marvel Studios. He made the comments on The Playlist's "Bingeworthy" podcast, according to Variety.
Pratt said Marvel has taken "hard action" to make the return happen. He also said he is in ongoing conversations with Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' head, and Lou D'Esposito about keeping the promise. Pratt did not say when Star-Lord will come back. He said he is not at liberty to give a timing.
The promise is not new. Pratt had previously said on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast that he pitched Feige an idea for bringing the character back. The 2023 film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with credits-scene text stating that "the Legendary Star-Lord will return."
That film also closed Star-Lord's storyline in a particular way. He passes the leadership of the Guardians of the Galaxy to Rocket, the raccoon voiced by Bradley Cooper. The team went on without him, and the franchise moved on with it.
Pratt has played Star-Lord in six films: the two Guardians of the Galaxy films, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Each of those films put him alongside a wide cast of Marvel heroes, and his character was a regular fixture across the Infinity Saga.
The next MCU film is Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18. Variety reported in March 2025 that Star-Lord was not among the Marvel stars set to appear in that film against Doctor Doom. Pratt's new comments do not address the film's cast.
For fans waiting to see the character again, the news is a confirmation rather than a schedule. Pratt has said the talks are happening, and Marvel has not announced a date. Until a studio makes a date official, the return remains a promise without a release window.
