Netflix and Hoichoi Join Forces, Bringing Bengali Series to Hindi, Tamil and Telugu Audiences

Netflix and Hoichoi, the Bengali-language streaming service, unveiled a partnership in Mumbai on Thursday. Under the deal, new Hoichoi series will reach Netflix viewers in three more languages: Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
The arrangement covers every series Hoichoi launches over the next two years. Each one will get Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions. Those versions will stream only on Netflix, meaning they will not appear on Hoichoi's own service. New titles will arrive on Netflix in those languages on the same day they debut in Bengali on Hoichoi, according to Variety.
The first title under the partnership is The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi. It is a horror series rooted in folklore, due to premiere on November 6. It stars Jeetu Kamal, Solanki Roy and Paoli Dam.
Netflix will also carry 14 existing Hoichoi series. The list includes Madam Inspector, Sampurna, Lajja, Eken Sirji, Anjaan Saaye, The Curse of Parnashavari, Bloodlines, The Adventures of Daadi & Jagga, Raat Abhi Baaki Hain, Achinta: Trial By Law, Shaadi Ka Siyappa, Queens, Parineeta: A Love Story and Mahanagar. For viewers who have never seen these shows, the change is simple. They can now find them on Netflix in the languages they speak at home, rather than only in Bengali.
The two companies will also develop new original series together. These will rework selected stories from Hoichoi's catalogue. Hoichoi Studios will produce them.
For Hoichoi, the deal means its Bengali series can travel to audiences far beyond West Bengal. For Netflix, it adds a Bengali-language catalogue to its Indian lineup. For the people who make these shows, it means their work gets a second, wider life after its first release.
The announcement did not include viewing figures, subscriber numbers or financial terms. Those details, and any changes to the schedule, will show up in future announcements from the two companies.
