Raphy Weatherall Signs On at Northamptonshire Until 2028

Northamptonshire fast bowler Raphy Weatherall has signed a contract extension that keeps him at the club until at least the end of the 2028 season. The club announced the deal on 22 October 2026, and it adds one year to the three-year contract he signed in 2024.
Weatherall is 21 and a former England Under-19 international. A fast bowler, meaning a bowler who relies on pace rather than spin, he made his Northamptonshire debut in 2024. BBC Sport reports that he has played 29 games across all formats over the past three seasons, taking 41 wickets.
This season his best figures came in July, when he took 4-56 against Warwickshire in the One-Day Cup, the 50-overs-a-side competition. Four wickets in one innings is a strong return in that format, and it gave the club a clear sign of what he can offer in the middle of a long campaign.
Off the pitch, Weatherall graduated with a law degree from Exeter University in June. Balancing a degree with a professional sport career takes organisation, and it gives him a route outside cricket should he ever want one.
The club's head coach is Darren Lehmann. The extension means Weatherall will remain part of a squad that plays its home matches at cinch County Ground. His previous extension had kept him at the club until at least the end of 2027, so this new deal pushes that commitment on by a full season.
For a young seamer, a longer contract brings stability. It means a settled base to develop, rather than a year-by-year search for a place. Weatherall has already shown the early signs of a bowler who can take wickets in more than one format, and the next two seasons will show how far that goes.
