Callum Turner and Jack Lowden in the Mix for James Bond Screen Tests

Callum Turner and Jack Lowden are both in the mix to screen test for the role of James Bond, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The next round of tests is set for London this weekend.
A screen test is a filmed audition. The actor performs on camera so the filmmakers can see how they look and sound in the part. The Hollywood Reporter says the tests could begin as early as Friday, 23 October. At least three actors are taking part, and one source told the outlet that up to five may test.
Jack O'Connell is apparently not in the mix, and Jacob Elordi is not testing, the same report says. Each actor will be assessed across three areas: stunts, camera presence and dialogue. Camera presence is the screen quality that holds the viewer's eye without any sign of effort.
The next film is being directed by Denis Villeneuve. Amy Pascal and David Heyman are producing and overseeing the franchise for Amazon MGM Studios, which bought the James Bond creative rights from the Broccoli family in February 2025. Daniel Craig played 007 from Casino Royale in 2006 until No Time to Die in 2021.
The search itself is not new. Variety reported in May that auditions had officially started, with casting director Nina Gold tapped to find the next 007. Gold is known for her work on Game of Thrones.
Public speculation has been building for months. GQ reported in August that Turner had been the favourite for the role for the previous six months. In September, Page Six reported that Gary Oldman had claimed the next Bond had already been decided. Oldman also backed his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden for the part.
The screen tests are the next step, and the studio has not said who will play the role. For now, the weekend's filming in London is the event to watch.
