The stage musical of David Nicholls' novel One Day will open in London's West End at the Garrick Theatre on 17 November, with bookings running to 14 March 2027, according to WhatsOnStage.

The show is based on Nicholls' 2009 novel about Emma and Dexter, two people whose lives keep crossing over many years. Jamie Muscato plays Dexter and Sharon Rose plays Emma. Dan Buckley has also been announced to join the two leads in the London production.

The production is a transfer, meaning it moves from its first home into a commercial theatre in the West End. Before London, it had a preview run at Edinburgh's Lyceum Theatre. Previews are performances given before the official opening, when a show can still change as it finds its feet with an audience.

Max Webster directs. The book is by David Greig. The music and lyrics are by Abner and Amanda Ramirez, who make up the duo Johnnyswim, with additional material by Jeremy Sams.

The team has been releasing material ahead of the move. A first official trailer came out in March 2026, and a video of Rose and Muscato singing "Em And Dex" was published in October, as was a clip of Muscato performing "You". Rehearsal photographs taken by Pamela Raith have now been released, giving the first proper look at the London company at work.

For anyone who knows the novel, the musical's appeal is the same as the book's: a long story told in snatches, one day at a time, over twenty years. For anyone new to it, the premise is simple. Two people, a few meetings, and a lot of time passing between them.

The Garrick is one of the smaller houses in the West End, and the booking period is long. Anyone who wants to see the show will need to check the box office or the production's own website for ticket prices and how to buy.

Nothing about the run has been settled beyond these dates. Further casting, prices and details of the opening performances have not been announced so far.
