Gloucestershire have extended the contract of all-rounder Daaryoush "Daz" Ahmed until the end of 2027, BBC Sport reported on 23 October 2026. An all-rounder bats and bowls, so a player in that role can change a match at either end of the game.

Ahmed is 26 and comes from Bristol. He has played 23 times for Gloucestershire across the three formats: first-class (four-day) cricket, the 50-over One Day Cup and the short-form T20 game. His first deal with the club was a rookie contract, signed in October 2025, which ran until October 2026.

Gloucestershire director of cricket Jon Lewis said the extension shows the club is keen on investing in Ahmed. He added that the club believes Ahmed has a future at the county, according to the BBC.

The highlights of his record stand out. In first-class cricket he hit a career-best 90 not out from 117 balls against Middlesex. He also took part in a rescue in that same match: on day two, he and Sai Kishore added 144 for the eighth wicket, a partnership that helped pull Gloucestershire out of trouble, Gloucestershire Cricket reported. An eighth-wicket stand is a partnership between the eighth and final batter of the side's top order, after seven wickets have already fallen, so the pair often have to keep the innings alive while the tail is exposed.

In the One Day Cup, Ahmed took figures of 4-56 with the ball, meaning four wickets for 56 runs. He also scored 48 from 38 balls in Gloucestershire's three-wicket win over Northamptonshire. He has taken six wickets in total in his career so far.

What it means for the club is simple. Gloucestershire have a local player with two skills, and they have committed to him for another two seasons. For Ahmed, it gives him a settled base after a first contract that was always going to be short. Lewis's comments point to a club that sees him as part of its plans rather than a squad filler.

Contract news in county cricket rarely comes with fireworks, but it does tell you what a club values. A player who scores quickly, bowls when needed and has already produced a match-changing innings has a clear case for his place. The coming seasons will show whether that promise grows into a bigger role.
