Shane Gillis and Danny McBride Star in a Four-Minute Kalshi Ad

Comedians Shane Gillis and Danny McBride star together in a new four-minute commercial for Kalshi, a prediction market platform, Variety reported this week.
A prediction market is an online marketplace where people trade on whether something will happen, such as a forecast or a sports result. The ad uses that idea as a joke about the weather.
In the spot, Gillis plays a weatherman who cannot get the forecast right. McBride plays a meteorologist at a competing network who is always accurate. His secret is a mysterious oracle, played by Deep Roy, who supplies him with the weather predictions.
McBride also wrote the commercial. Randy Krallman directed it. Krallman also directed the original E*TRADE talking baby commercials, the ones that made that brokerage's ads a fixture of American television.
The full four-minute film is long for a commercial. A shorter, abridged cut will air during Game 1 of the World Series, the championship between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers. Viewers who watch that game will see the shorter version, and the longer cut is the one that carries the whole story.
Kalshi's head of growth, Keaton Inglis, is the company's lead on expanding its user base. Growth teams usually focus on bringing in new customers, and a big televised moment like a World Series broadcast is one way to reach people who may not know the company.
Gillis and McBride both have long track records in comedy, and this is a rare pairing in an advertisement. For viewers, the practical point is simple. If you watch the World Series, you may see this spot, and it is built like a short comedy sketch rather than a traditional sales pitch.
