Players of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 are arguing about one perk in the game's DMZ mode, and the argument is loud.

The perk is called Possum. It lets a player revive themselves once per match, on command, after they have been killed. DMZ is an extraction mode, where players drop into a map, gather loot and try to escape alive. Eurogamer reported that the mode had been out for two days, with early access limited to players who had pre-ordered the game.

Possum is an operator trait, a special ability tied to a character's progression. Players unlock it by levelling up their operators. Eurogamer says it can be unlocked in a handful of hours by focusing progression on the Warfighter path.

The revive does not put a player straight back in the fight. It places them in a Last Stand, a downed state they must recover from before they can keep playing. Recovery takes around 10 uninterrupted seconds. Anyone who revives this way also loses any loot they had gathered.

Reaction has been divided. Call of Duty YouTuber Phixate called Possum completely broken. Creator Wynn-Gaming described it as crazy. Other players have defended it, and the debate has spread across social media and video channels.

For players who have not yet bought the game, the access rules matter. Activision's blog says Modern Warfare 4 requires a separate purchase and is not available on Game Pass, the Xbox subscription service, at launch. The same blog has posted two guides for the mode, titled "DMZ Deep Dive, Part 1: Hajin Intel Guide" and "DMZ Deep Dive, Part 2: FOB Intel Guide."

Technical problems are also on the list. Activision's known issues page says an issue is under investigation that stops some Xbox on PC players from launching Campaign or DMZ after installation. The page does not give a fix date.

The game itself launches worldwide on 23 October 2026, according to Activision's support site. Pre-orders are available on Xbox Series X|S and on Xbox on PC.

What happens to Possum next is not yet known. Players and creators will keep testing it as more people reach the mode.
