Horror studio Blumhouse wants to hear from anyone who has been frightened by one of its films or series, and it has dressed the idea up as a legal claim. The studio has launched a spoof ad, meaning a parody of the lawyer-style commercials that look for people to join a lawsuit. It invites viewers "personally victimized by a Blumhouse movie or series" who "may be entitled to compensation," according to Variety.

The joke is the point of the campaign, and the small print makes that clear. "No real lawsuit is being filed. No real legal claims are being made," the ad says.

Blumhouse is still asking for something. People who feel "wrongfully spooked" are told to file a complaint at bit.ly/blumhouseclaims. The studio says it will collect the submissions and share some of them on its social media accounts.

The ad went out on Blumhouse's social channels and through its newsletter, "The Van," which is sent by Blumhouse Atomic Monster, the studio's label for its television work. The campaign is there to promote the new season of The Rainmaker on USA Network.

The Rainmaker is a drama based on John Grisham's 1995 novel of the same name. USA Network ordered the series adaptation in June 2024, as Variety reported at the time. Lionsgate Television and Blumhouse Atomic Monster are behind the show. The story follows Rudy Baylor, a young lawyer who uncovers evidence of insurance fraud by a company called Great Benefit.

The first season did well for the channel. Variety reported that it was USA Network's most-watched "freshman" series in seven years. A freshman series is a show in its first season. Variety also reported that it was the most-watched new scripted series across cable in 2025. Cable means television channels delivered through a paid subscription, rather than an app.

Season 2 Episode 2 airs on USA Network on Friday, at 10/9c. That is 10pm Eastern and 9pm Central time. The channel's own promotion has also used the Friday slot for the show's run this autumn.

Sending a fake lawsuit to your own audience is a strange way to sell a series. It also gives fans a reason to talk about a show that is already on the air. Whether the stunt pulls in new viewers is not yet known.
