Stephanie March Returns to Law & Order: SVU as Alexandra Cabot

Stephanie March is going back to Law & Order: SVU, and her old character is coming with her. The Hollywood Reporter reports that March will guest star as Alexandra Cabot in episode 9 of season 28. A guest star is an actor who appears in a single episode or a few, rather than in every one. No airdate has been set for that episode yet.
Cabot was a prosecutor, an assistant district attorney, and she was the show's first long-term ADA, according to NBC's own guide to the show's prosecutors. March played her for three seasons, from 2000 to 2003. She then left early in season five. Her character appeared to be killed off, but the show later revealed that Cabot was entering the federal witness protection programme, a government scheme that hides people who testify against dangerous criminals.
March came back several times over the years, appearing in seasons six, 10, 11 and 13. Her return in season 10 came in episode 15, titled "Lead." In that episode, Cabot took the place of prosecutor Kim Greylek, as NBC's Insider page on the character explains. March's most recent SVU appearance was in 2018, in a season 19 episode about a missing persons case alongside Olivia Benson. That episode revealed that Cabot had left the district attorney's office and was helping abuse victims escape from the people who hurt them.
The new episode is not the only return on the calendar. The Hollywood Reporter says March will be the second former regular to appear this season, meaning a actor who was once part of the main cast. Christopher Meloni is also coming back. He will reprise his role as Elliot Stabler in the show's 600th episode, which is set to air on Nov. 12.
March has also worked outside the SVU universe. She starred in Conviction, a 2006 series that sat alongside the Law & Order family of shows. That gives her a long track record with the franchise, both on screen and off.
For viewers, the date to circle right now is Nov. 12, the milestone episode with Meloni. The date for March's episode has not been announced, so fans will need to wait for the network to confirm when Cabot is back on screen.
