Inde Navarrette has given fans their first sense of how Rogue will sound in Marvel's X-Men reboot, and the answer starts with one word: "Sugar."

In a carpet interview with Canadian news program Etalk, Navarrette was asked to preview the character's Southern accent and catchphrase, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She said she had not done much practice yet. She plans to work on the accent with the Marvel team.

The accent fits the character. In Marvel Comics, Rogue's real name is Anna Marie, and she comes from Mississippi. Her powers include the ability to absorb other people's powers and memories, temporarily, by touching them.

Marvel announced Navarrette as Rogue at D23 earlier this year. The wider cast, as listed by The Hollywood Reporter, includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister. Jake Schreier is set to direct.

The film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028. That date gives the production a long runway, and the cast will have time to shape the voices and looks before audiences see them.

Navarrette also talked about taking on the role on The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast. Her next project is already lined up. She will star in and executive produce Apple Original Films' sci-fi thriller The Waffle House Index.

For anyone new to the X-Men, the franchise has long followed a team of mutants, people born with special abilities, and Rogue has been one of its best-known members. Navarrette now takes on a role that many viewers have known for decades, and her first public line of dialogue is already on the record.
