Man Arrested After Knife Dispute on Brooklyn Set of Miami Vice '85

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Brooklyn on Friday night after a knife dispute on the set of Miami Vice '85, the Universal Pictures film starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler.
Alex Perez, of Brooklyn, was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. near Avenue N and McDonald Avenue, close to Washington Cemetery, The Hollywood Reporter reported. The magazine confirmed that the incident happened on the film's set.
According to an NYPD spokesperson, a 42-year-old man told officers he had a verbal dispute with a person who displayed a knife. The New York Post reported that Perez allegedly threatened a crew member with the blade.
Footage obtained by TMZ, as described by The Hollywood Reporter, shows a production staffer escorting Perez away before he pulls a large knife from his sweatshirt. Perez was taken into custody without further incident, and police recovered the knife. No injuries were reported.
Perez has been charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. Charges are accusations, not findings of guilt, and the case will proceed through the courts.
The film is a reimagining of the NBC crime drama that ran in the 1980s, which starred Don Johnson as Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Tubbs. It is directed by Joseph Kosinski. Universal has released first-look images of Butler as Sonny Crockett and Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs. The studio has scheduled the film for theatres on May 19, 2028.
The arrest is the latest disruption to a production in New York City. For now, the filmmakers have not been reported to have changed that release date.
