Holland Taylor says she was never paid well on Two and a Half Men, and that she chose to leave her contract after the sixth season. She told the "Alchemy with Anthony Mason" podcast about the decision, as Variety reported on 25 October 2026.

Taylor played Evelyn Harper, the mother of Charlie and Alan, for six years. The sitcom ran for 12 seasons, from 2003 to 2015, and her character was the mother of the roles played by Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer. People described the family link in a report published on 23 October 2026.

On the podcast, Taylor said she was paid about what she had earned on a different series roughly eight years earlier. She also said she received four Emmy nominations during her time on the show. The Emmys are the main American television awards, and Taylor was nominated four times in the supporting actress category. Despite those nominations, she said, she never received a raise.

After season six, Taylor declined to renew her contract. A contract renewal is the agreement that keeps a performer on a show's regular cast for another run. Instead, she came back now and then as a guest star, meaning she appeared in some episodes without being a regular cast member. Taylor said the producers were astonished that she would not stay under contract.

E! Online reported that, when Taylor turned down the renewal, the show's team assumed she was negotiating for more money. According to that report, they told her, "We can't pay you any more money."

The sitcom's regular run ended in 2015, after 12 seasons. Taylor's comments add a personal account of how her own time on the show came to an end, with her pay and her decision to step back at the centre of it.
