Bernadette Launches Baby Knitwear Capsule Inspired by Charlotte de Geyter's Daughter

Bernadette, the Antwerp label run by mother and daughter Bernadette and Charlotte de Geyter, has launched a children's knitwear range. The collection, called Baby Bernadette, is inspired by Charlotte de Geyter's daughter, Susie.
Susie was born on Sunday, 13 September. According to WWD, Charlotte de Geyter photographed the Baby Bernadette campaign herself, 20 days after giving birth.
The capsule, a small, linked group of pieces sold together, ranges in size from 0 to 5 years. It includes a cardigan and a button-shoulder crewneck, each priced at USD 165. A bonnet costs USD 99, and a pair of booties costs USD 105. The range comes in three colour variations.
The pieces carry intarsia motifs of berries and cherries. Intarsia is a knitting method that builds a pattern into the fabric in colour, rather than printing it on top. The motifs are taken from Bernadette's womenswear. Each piece is knitted by hand in Antwerp, the Belgian city where the label is based.
Baby Bernadette is sold made-to-order, which means each item is made after a customer places an order. Buyers therefore wait for their pieces rather than picking them off a shelf.
The children's range debuted alongside Bernadette's fall collection. The label has built its name on dresses, particularly silk ones, and on bright botanical prints that Charlotte de Geyter designs. In 2020 the de Geyters extended the brand into bags, and the children's knitwear is the label's first line for babies.
For a family business, the project joins two threads that have run through the label for years. The womenswear motifs now appear in a smaller size, and the person who designs the prints has also become the person who photographs the campaign. The label has not, in the material available, given a figure for how many pieces it expects to make.
