Arrowhead Game Studios has no plans to release a new Helldivers game any time soon, according to its chief creative officer, Johan Pilestedt. He made the remarks in an interview published on 26 October 2026, reported by Video Games Chronicle.

Pilestedt said about 95% of the studio is still working on updates for Helldivers 2. A small team is prototyping the studio's next game, which is not a Helldivers title.

The main reason, he said, is the game the studio already has. In his view, the biggest competitor to a Helldivers 3 would be Helldivers 2. A sequel would start players from zero, so it would have to be very different for both games to exist side by side. He said making Helldivers 2 better every day made more sense than giving up the momentum it has built.

Helldivers 2 is a co-operative shooter, where small teams of players fight together against enemies. It is also a live-service game, meaning it is sold and then updated over time after launch, rather than being finished at release. The game came out on PS5 and PC in 2024 and later reached Xbox Series X and S.

Its launch has been strong by the numbers. Helldivers 2 sold 12 million copies across PC and PS5 in its first 12 weeks, making it the fastest-selling game launch in PlayStation's history.

For players, the message is simple. A new Helldivers game is not in the near future, and the team's main focus is the game that is already out. Updates to Helldivers 2 will keep coming, and a sequel is not on the schedule Pilestedt described.

Studios often keep a second project in early work while a live game runs. Pilestedt's comments suggest Arrowhead is doing exactly that, with most of its people still focused on the current game.
