The CEO of the studio behind Helldivers 2 says he is happy that Grand Theft Auto VI will not launch on PC or with an online mode — because it means his game gets to "keep crushing it" without competition from the biggest release in gaming.

Shams Jorjani, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios, made the remarks to press on August 27, the same day Rockstar Games aired an "Extended Look" event for GTA 6 on Netflix. Rockstar has confirmed the game will launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but has not announced a PC edition. The publisher has described GTA 6 as a "single-player experience," though it has not explicitly ruled out an online mode at launch. (GameSpot)

"On a selfish level I'm happy it's not hitting PC right away, and that online isn't dropping," Jorjani said, according to GamesRadar. "It means Helldivers 2 gets to keep crushing it in our own space, and is also why it won't be the all-consuming behemoth everyone's worried about."

Helldivers 2, a co-op shooter in which players fight alien threats across planets, launched in February 2024 and became one of that year's breakout hits. A live-service game — sold and then continually updated with new content after launch — it relies on an active player base that could be drawn away when a heavyweight competitor arrives.

Jorjani also praised Rockstar's approach. He called the studio's work "ridiculous, high-effort stuff" and said Rockstar has "the brand power to confidently take their time and run their classic play" rather than chasing industry trends. "They have the confidence and freedom to spend a decade doing things the old-school way because they know the core game will deliver," he said. "It's going to raise the bar for sure." (GameSpot)

GTA 6 fans waited 13 years for a sequel to GTA 5, which itself launched without an online mode and came to PC only after its console release. Rockstar's last major entry, GTA Online, eventually became a revenue engine of its own — the kind of persistent, multiplayer world that can dominate player attention for years.

This is not the first time Jorjani has spoken about GTA 6's impact on his studio. In November 2025, after Rockstar delayed GTA 6 from its original window, he said the six-month delay gave Arrowhead "another six months of uninterrupted work without GTA looming" over Helldivers 2. (IGN)

For a smaller studio, the staggered release of GTA 6 — consoles first, PC and online later — creates breathing room. Helldivers 2 will not have to compete for attention with a PC audience or a GTA Online community on day one. The gap may not last forever, but Arrowhead sounds ready to make the most of it.
