Bekah Brunstetter, the creator of The Five Star Weekend, has signed an overall deal with Universal Global Television. An overall deal is a contract that keeps a writer or producer working on new projects for one studio, and it was announced on 26 October 2026 by Deadline.

Under the agreement, Brunstetter will develop and produce shows for Universal Global Television. Those shows are meant for a range of platforms, not one channel or service. It is her first overall deal.

The timing follows a renewal. Peacock ordered a second season of The Five Star Weekend in August, and Deadline reported that Jennifer Garner was among four cast members expected to return. Brunstetter is now working on that second season, which stars Garner.

The series is based on the bestselling novel by Elin Hilderbrand. Brunstetter has said that her adaptation stays largely close to the book, according to a Peacock interview. The first season became Peacock's most-watched scripted original to date, according to the Deadline report. Peacock has not, in the material reported so far, published a viewing figure for that claim.

Brunstetter's writing background is wide. She spent three seasons as a writer and producer on NBC's This Is Us, a show that earned three Outstanding Drama Series Emmy nominations while she was on staff. She was also a co-executive producer on Netflix's limited series Maid and Sirens. On Broadway, she wrote the book for the musical adaptation of The Notebook, which earned her a Tony nomination in 2024.

Her new studio home is led by Beatrice Springborn, who is President of Universal Global Television. Universal Global Television is a division of Universal Studio Group.

Brunstetter's name was also attached to earlier TV work. In 2024, Deadline reported that she and the writer Huynh would adapt the novel The Fortunes of Jaded Women for television, with Universal involved.

For viewers, the news means one thing for now. Brunstetter's next projects will come through Universal Global Television, and the second season of The Five Star Weekend is still in production.
