The Flaming Lips have announced their first album of new material in six years. The record is called The Teardrop Throbs, and it arrives on 22 January 2027 through Third Man Records, the label run by Jack White. It is the band's 17th album, according to Rolling Stone.

The band's previous album was American Head, released in 2020. The Teardrop Throbs is also the first Flaming Lips record without Steven Drozd, who joined the group in 1991. Flood Magazine reports that it is the band's first release outside Warner, one of the three major record companies, since 1990.

The lead single, "God Will Control the Werewolves," is already out. The song is the second track on the album. Wayne Coyne, the band's frontman, has said it was inspired by his sons Bloom and Rex playing hide and seek during a full moon. The album's tracklist also includes "Titan," "Every Teardrop Cried" and "Hooray."

Fans can buy the record on black vinyl, on a limited "Teardrop Blue" vinyl, on CD, or stream it on digital platforms. The release details come from Third Man Records, which published the announcement on 26 October 2026.

The band has also set a run of concerts for 2027. The Flaming Lips will play two shows in each of five cities, and the two nights are built differently. The first show in each city highlights the new record along with early-career songs. The second show features reimagined versions of The Teardrop Throbs songs alongside material from the 2000s onward.

The dates are:

  • Nashville, Brooklyn Bowl: 22 and 23 January
  • New York, Irving Plaza: 26 and 27 January
  • Los Angeles, The Bellwether: 23 and 24 February
  • Chicago, Metro: 27 and 28 February
  • London, O2 Shepherds Bush: 2 April (one date)

Tickets go on pre-sale first. A pre-sale is an early window, usually for fan club or priority buyers, before tickets reach the general public. Pre-sales run on 28 and 29 October at 10:00 a.m. local time. General sale opens on 30 October at 10:00 a.m. local time through the band's official website.

For anyone who follows the band, the timing is simple to plan around. The first ticket window opens in two days, and the album itself is still more than three months away. Those who prefer to wait for the record can start with the single, which is available now.
