HBO's Harry Potter Series Adds Charlie Weasley, James Potter and Lily Potter
HBO's Harry Potter series has three new cast members for its first season, Variety reported.
Harry Gilby will play Charlie Weasley, the older brother of Ron Weasley in J.K. Rowling's books. Jasper Talbot has been cast as James Potter, and Hannah Chinn as Lily Potter. James and Lily are Harry's parents, and their story sits at the heart of the books.
Season 1 is titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the name of the first book in the series. The season premieres on HBO on December 25, which is Christmas Day.
A Rotten Tomatoes guide to the series also lists the lead trio. It names Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione.
Season 1 is one of the most closely watched casting processes in television this year, because the books have so many fans. The new names fill out the Weasley and Potter families, which are central to the first story. Each role is a fixed part of the book's world, so the casting choices stand out to readers who know the characters well.
For viewers, the next clear date is December 25, when the first episodes arrive on HBO. Until then, the cast list is the main public update on the production.
