Billy Bob Thornton Hosts New Mayflower Docudrama for Fox Nation

Billy Bob Thornton will host a three-part series about the Mayflower, and it will debut on Fox Nation on November 23.
The show is called Billy Bob Thornton Presents: The Mayflower. It is a docudrama, a format that mixes documentary-style storytelling with dramatised scenes, so viewers see both real history and reconstructed moments. Thornton also executive produces. An executive producer is a senior figure who oversees a show's overall direction and business side, rather than the day-to-day filming. Variety reported the series details.
The series looks at the voyage of the Mayflower, the ship that carried the Pilgrims across the Atlantic. It covers the alliance between the English settlers and the Wampanoag people, the Indigenous nation whose land the newcomers arrived on. It also examines the conflicts that pushed the former British colonies toward forming an American identity.
Parts of the series were filmed at Plimoth Patuxet Museums, a living history museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where staff in period dress recreate life in the 1600s. The production also consulted historians from the museum. It drew on the work of Nathaniel Philbrick, the author of Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War.
The series is produced by AIRtime Projects and Terminal B TV. Its executive producers are Thornton, Geyer Kosinski, Tom Forman, David Metzler, Jordan Rosenblum, and showrunner John Ealer. A showrunner is the lead writer and creative head who runs a series day to day, so Ealer carries much of the responsibility for how the episodes come together.
Fox Nation is a subscription streaming service, which means the series will be available to people who sign up for it. Its three parts make it a short run, and the November 23 date gives viewers a fixed day to plan around.
The Mayflower has long been a standard part of American school history lessons, and the Plimoth Patuxet connection puts the series in a place where visitors can see the story's setting for themselves. Few details beyond the premiere date and format have been announced so far.
