Sophie Wears Her Rocking Earrings to Helsinki
Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, wore a pair of gold-plated bronze earrings to a reception at the British ambassador's residence in Helsinki, Finland. The earrings are the "Rocking Earrings" from Giulia Barela Jewelry, according to Town & Country.
The duchess is married to Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, the younger brother of King Charles III. The couple left Heathrow Airport in London on 26 October for a three-day official visit to Finland, which runs through 28 October. An official visit is a trip taken on behalf of the British government, and this one is meant to highlight UK ties with Finland in defense and security, business and innovation, and education.
Gold-plated bronze is a base metal with a thin layer of gold on top. The earrings have a history of their own. Sophie first wore them at the Royal British Legion's service marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied landings in Normandy in 1944. The Royal British Legion is a UK charity that supports veterans and their families. She wore them again at Trooping the Colour in 2024, the king's official birthday parade in London, and at a Buckingham Palace summer garden party in May 2026.
The Finland trip has been a busy one. The couple met Helsinki Mayor Daniel Sazonov and his wife, Anita Westerholm, at City Hall. Sophie also met Suzanne Innes-Stubb, the wife of Finland's president, at a jewelry factory in Helsinki. The two women forged a piece of jewelry together. The schedule also includes a visit to the jeweler Kalevala Jewelry.
For the reception, Sophie wore a navy Roksanda Luna dress with a red floral-print shawl. Earlier in the trip, she wore a houndstooth skirt and blazer by Gabriela Hearst, according to Town & Country.
Royal style watchers tend to track repeat pieces like these, and the Rocking Earrings have now appeared at a national military commemoration, a state parade, a palace garden party and a Nordic visit. The couple's official schedule, published in the Court Circular, the palace's daily record of royal engagements, will show the rest of the trip as it unfolds.
