Israel's military has detained an Egyptian civilian who crossed the border fence from Egypt into Israel overnight, near the town of Nitzana. The military announced the detention on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, according to Al Jazeera.

The military said soldiers monitoring surveillance cameras spotted the Egyptian crossing the border near Nitzana, according to a report on the Times of Israel live blog. Israel's Kan 11 reported that surveillance identified the suspect and that troops were sent to arrest him. The man crossed the fence early on Tuesday, according to Ynet, which reported that the military was treating the incident seriously and that it was under investigation.

Nitzana sits directly on the frontier, opposite the Egyptian area of Al-Awja. It lies roughly 75 kilometres (47 miles) south of the Israeli city of Beersheba. The Nitzana crossing, also known as the Eliav crossing, mainly handles cargo moving between Israel and Egypt.

After his detention, the man was transferred to Israeli security forces for further questioning.
