Prime Video has hired Sasha Bühler to run its German-language productions, starting December 1. She will become Head of German Originals at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios Germany, according to Deadline.

"Originals" means shows and films a streaming service commissions or co-produces for its own catalogue, rather than buying in from elsewhere. The job covers the German-speaking shows Prime Video makes, so the person in it decides which projects get backing.

Bühler succeeds Philip Pratt in the role. Pratt has been named Vice President, Original Production at Disney+ for Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Bühler will report to Tara Erer, Director of Northern European Originals, UK Unscripted and Film.

Bühler spent more than a decade at Constantin Film, one of Germany's best-known film companies, where she was Head of Acquisitions and International Co-Productions. Acquisitions means buying the rights to films and series, and co-productions are projects made by two or more companies sharing the cost. She also worked as Head of Acquisitions at SquareOne Entertainment.

Her most recent streaming post was at Netflix. There she was Director of Film for German-speaking Europe. Jan Bennemann has taken over her previous role as Head of Film for Germany, Austria and Switzerland at Netflix.

Her credits include the war drama All Quiet on the Western Front, according to a Deadline report from August 2026.

Bühler has spoken publicly about the streaming business before. In September 2023, at the Zurich Summit, a industry gathering in Switzerland, she addressed what the industry calls streamer contraction. That term refers to streaming services cutting back on spending, staff and new titles after several years of rapid growth.

For the German market, the move puts a veteran buyer and producer on the commissioning side of one of Prime Video's European operations. Prime Video has not announced any particular projects linked to the appointment. Those decisions will come after she starts.

Pratt's move to Disney+ means two of the region's major streamers now have new leads on German-speaking originals within a short span of time, with Bühler's start date set for the first day of December.
