Netflix has unveiled the cast and a first image for Oktoberfest, a German-language romantic comedy directed by Simon Verhoeven, according to Deadline.

The film is set against the Munich beer festival, which Germans call the Wiesn. Jeanne Goursaud plays an Oktoberfest waitress and single mother whose personal life is complicated. Jannis Niewöhner plays a stressed businessman who is stranded in Munich on a business trip.

The supporting cast is large. Senta Berger, Michaela May, Eisi Gulp and Marlene Morreis are in the ensemble, along with newcomer Bosse Hopperdietz. Peter Gallagher, Fisher Stevens and Bart Edwards also appear, Deadline reports.

Production began on 15 September 2026, while the real festival was running. The crew filmed among thousands of visitors, inside working beer tents and across the festival grounds. Netflix announced the shoot in September and described the project as Verhoeven's directorial debut for the streamer.

Not every scene was shot in the open. Filming is continuing at Studio Penzing, near Munich, where the crew is recreating the festival world indoors. That mix of live crowds and built sets is a common way to shoot a film set in a busy public place, because a studio lets the team control lighting, camera positions and sound.

The film is produced by Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann and Kirstin Winkler. Their Munich company, Wiedemann & Berg Film, is the production house behind it, Deadline reports.

For viewers, the news is the cast and the image. Netflix has not announced a release date. Anyone wanting to follow the project can watch for further updates from the streamer.
