The Elevator Boys have released the trailer for their first feature film, Back to the 90s, ahead of its premiere on Prime Video on 21 August (Variety, 2026).

The film is a German-language comedy that sends five best friends back to 1995 — via an elevator. The five central characters are Matteo (Julien Brown), Jonas (Tim Schäcker), Chris (Luis Freitag), Ben (Jacob Rott) and Oliver (Bene Schulz), all played by the Elevator Boys themselves. The supporting cast includes Felicitas Woll, Anja Pichler, Luise Aschenbrenner, Sidney Fahlisch, Helena von Have and Derya Akyol (Variety, 2026).

For anyone unfamiliar with the name, the Elevator Boys are a German group of content creators who became a boy band. They launched in 2021 with short viral videos shot inside elevators and have since built an audience of 48 million followers across social media. Their first EP, Scared to Love, arrived in 2024 on their own label, and their rendition of "Jingle Bell Rock" has been streamed more than 25 million times. A clip of the group slicing a cake shaped like Heidi Klum's head at the supermodel's Halloween party — posted by Variety on X — drew close to 11 million views (Variety, 2026).

The project carries some recognisable names behind the camera. The title track, called "1995", was written by Gary Barlow — the Take That frontman and songwriter whose catalogue of hits stretches back to the very decade the film celebrates. Back to the 90s is directed by Facundo Scalerandi, working from an idea and screenplay by Juliana Lima Dehne. Producers are Johanna Bergel, Benjamin Benedict and Quirin Berg, with Ralf Zimmermann as executive producer. The creative team includes director of photography Borris Kehl, costume designer Kaya Kürten, production designer Cora Pratz and makeup artist Kim Deguara (Variety, 2026).

The film is produced by W&B Television — a Leonine Studios company and part of the Mediawan Group — in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios Germany for Prime Video. Amazon has described the film as combining "music and adventure in a unique story" (IMDb, date unknown). Prime Video has been teasing the release for weeks, promoting it with the tagline "Welcome to 1995!" across its social channels from early July (Prime Video on Facebook, 2026).

The Elevator Boys recently signed with the talent agency CAA, a move that signals their push beyond social media into traditional film and television work (IMDb, date unknown). For a group that started by filming skids behind lift doors, a Prime Video feature with a Gary Barlow-penned song and a full studio production team is a considerable leap — one that places them squarely in the streaming spotlight when Back to the 90s arrives on 21 August.
