Amazon has announced the Echo Show 16 smart display at $499.99, with a wall mount included in the box. Preorders are open now, and Amazon is offering a $100 preorder discount ahead of the device's release later this year, according to The Verge's hands-on coverage.

The unit has a full HD screen and runs a MediaTek processor rather than Amazon's own AZ3 chip. Audio comes from eight custom woofers and two tweeters housed in a speaker box that runs the length of the screen. It has four microphones for voice input. The device is VESA-mount compatible, meaning it uses the standard bolt pattern found on the back of many monitors and TVs, and the wall mount in the box is the included mounting option.

Amazon has also priced alternatives. A swivel/tilt stand costs $124.99 and a static stand costs $69.99. A Nanomatte display option, a matte panel finish designed to reduce glare, raises the price to $569.99.

The software centerpiece is Screen Styles, a set of customizable homescreens. The four listed styles are a family organizer, a smart home dashboard, an Alexa widgets screen and a digital photo frame. Amazon describes the Echo Show 16 as its most advanced, versatile smart display yet.

The announcement follows a wider Alexa hardware push. On October 8, 2026, Amazon announced new Alexa tablets with Alexa+ built in. Reuters reported that these are Amazon's first Android tablets incorporating Alexa, with prices running from $230 to $550 depending on model. The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, which Amazon lists as a Smart Productivity Tablet, starts at $499.99. It comes in Graphite with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Amazon's announcement said the tablet would ship on October 14. A Nanomatte version starts at $549.99, and Amazon says that model offers up to 16GB of RAM.

The Nanomatte finish is the common thread across the tablet and the Echo Show 16. Fortune reported that the Nanomatte display dramatically reduces screen glare, and Engadget reported that it gives ebooks a paper-like feel. On the Alexa tablets, Nanomatte is an upgrade option. On the Echo Show 16, it adds $70 over the standard panel.

Amazon also confirmed a leadership reshuffle within its Alexa division on October 9, 2026, one day after the tablet announcement, as Reuters reported.

The broader context here is the price structure. The Echo Show 16 base price matches the starting price of the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, so the same figure buys either a wall-mounted screen or a portable one, both running Alexa+. In my view, the more useful question for buyers is which form factor suits the room, since the stand options add $69.99 to $124.99 to the wall-mount configuration's cost, depending on placement.

In my view, a shared screen is a practical idea for households, because a family organizer, a smart home dashboard and a photo frame on one wall panel consolidate functions that otherwise live on phones and in separate apps. How well Screen Styles delivers that in daily use will depend on the widgets and the Alexa+ layer.

Taken together, the hardware choices suggest that Amazon is prioritizing audio and display quality in a fixed-location device. The wall mount and the Nanomatte option available at launch give buyers a clear set of configurations to compare.
