Flávio Bolsonaro Lands in Miami After Brazil Election Loss

Flávio Bolsonaro landed in Miami on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, according to a U.S. official, after losing Brazil's presidential election on Sunday. Reuters television images showed the Brazilian senator arriving in the city that day.
He left Brazil with his family. The New York Times reported that he crossed by land into Argentina on Tuesday night, accompanied by his wife and two daughters. The Associated Press reported that he travelled through Argentina and then Ecuador, and that he fled Brazil with his family.
The trip to the United States had been anticipated for some time. Reuters reported on Monday that he and his family were to receive U.S. visas, which allow foreign nationals to enter the country. Reuters also reported that his arrival in Miami was expected shortly after Donald Trump offered a Brazil exit.
Flávio Bolsonaro is the son of Jair Bolsonaro, a former ally of Mr. Trump who is serving a 27-year sentence. The New York Times described that conviction as stemming from his attempt to cling to power.
