Michael Sheen, Rakie Ayola and Sophie Melville have talked about staging Owain & Henry, a new Welsh play that opens in Cardiff on 5 November. They discussed the production in an interview with WhatsOnStage, published on 28 October 2026.

The play is by Gary Owen and reframes the story of Owain Glyndŵr. He led a revolt against English rule in Wales in the early 1400s, and some people regard him as the last true Prince of Wales. Sheen plays Owain, and the production is a world premiere, which means it is being seen by audiences for the first time.

The show is a Welsh National Theatre co-production. It is staged at the Donald Gordon Theatre inside the Wales Millennium Centre, and runs from 5 to 28 November 2026. Sheen and Steffan Donnelly are co-directing. Wales Millennium Centre lists tickets from £17.

Sheen leads a cast that includes Linus Roache. Ayola plays Mared Ferch Dafydd, Owain's wife. Emily Burnett plays Catrin, the couple's daughter. Melville is also in the cast.

The Welsh National Theatre released a teaser trailer for the play in September. The production will also be filmed live at the Wales Millennium Centre for streaming online, according to Nation.Cymru. No date for the stream has been given.

For anyone planning a trip, the run is short. It is four weeks in Cardiff, and the Donald Gordon Theatre is the only venue named so far. Those who want to see it in person will need to book soon after the opening week, when the run is likely to be busiest. The streamed version gives people outside Cardiff another way to watch.
