Brewers Lead Rays 3-1 as World Series Ad Dollars and Viewing Take Shape

The Milwaukee Brewers lead the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 in the best-of-seven 2026 World Series. One more Brewers win would give them the title, and Milwaukee has never won a World Series in its 57-year history.
The Brewers opened with three straight wins. The Rays struck back in Game 4, rallying in the 12th inning to win 4-3, after Milwaukee had been three outs from victory. Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday night at Tropicana Field, starting at 8 p.m. ET on Fox, Fox Deportes and Fox One, the company's streaming service.
A Rays win in Game 5 would force a Game 6. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit to force a Game 6 in a World Series. The only time a 3-0 hole has been overcome in a playoff series was in 2004, when the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
Viewing is strong but down a little on last year. Nielsen's total average audience for the first two games was 12.26 million and 10.85 million viewers, about 7% below 2025 levels, according to Deadline. Nielsen counts viewers across homes and other places they watch, so these figures are not directly comparable with some other counts.
The money is the other part of the story. A report from Guggenheim Securities, led by analyst Michael Morris, said Fox took in about $370 million in revenue from the 2025 MLB postseason. That was roughly 7% of the company's annual revenue. Last year's repeat by the Los Angeles Dodgers pushed World Series advertising revenue to record levels.
For 2026, Guggenheim put postseason ad dollars at around $275 million so far. It estimated the total would reach $324 million if the series goes to six games, and $373 million if it runs the full seven. The postseason makes up about two-thirds of Fox's annual ad revenue from MLB, the report said.
Fox's current MLB rights deal runs through 2028 at a reported $729 million a year. Guggenheim reaffirmed its "buy" rating on Fox shares, with a 12-month price target of $85. The shares were down 13% for 2026 so far, trading at about $64 in mid-day trading on Wednesday.
Both teams are small by the usual measures. Reuters reported that the Brewers and Rays are among MLB's smallest spenders and lowest-valued teams. Forbes ranked Milwaukee 21st of MLB's 30 teams, at $1.9 billion, in its 2026 valuations. The Brewers have not reached the World Series since 1982.
For the people who work on these broadcasts, a longer series means more production days, more crew shifts and more ad slots to sell. For viewers, it means a Game 5 that could still decide the title or push the series to a sixth game, depending on the result.
