Country singer Kenny Chesney announced on October 28, 2026, that his dog Poncho had died. In a tribute, Chesney said Poncho died at 5:15 a.m. that morning, according to Billboard.

Chesney said Poncho first came into his life 15 years ago, when a friend brought the dog to his doorstep. The two became inseparable on the road and at home. Chesney also said he took Poncho on stage with him at Chicago's Soldier Field in 2024, bringing the dog into a stadium full of fans.

The tribute closed with a short goodbye: "Goodbye Poncho. You were one heaven of a dog." In a separate post on Instagram, Chesney asked Poncho to say hello to DaRubaGirl, a name he did not explain in the post. Instagram

Chesney is one of the best-selling touring acts in country music, so his shows often draw very large crowds. Poncho's stage appearance gave many of those fans a glimpse of the dog's place in the singer's life. Now the announcement brings that part of his public life to a close.

Pet deaths are a private loss for most people, and that holds here too. Chesney chose to share his grief publicly, and his message was short, direct and warm. Fans who followed Poncho's time on stage and online now get to mark the same goodbye he wrote.
