Glee Is Coming Back at Disney+ and Hulu, and HBO Has Ordered a Crazy Rich Asians Series

Disney+ and Hulu have ordered a reboot of Glee, the musical comedy about a high school glee club that ran from 2009 to 2015. A reboot is a fresh version of a show, with new episodes and sometimes a few familiar faces. HBO has also ordered a series connected to Crazy Rich Asians, the 2018 film, according to Deadline.
Neither project has its full cast locked yet. Deadline reports that Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet were in talks to return to the Glee reboot, and that Lea Michele was in talks to reprise her role as Rachel Berry. Being "in talks" means negotiations are still under way. Nothing is signed until the actors confirm it.
Some of the Crazy Rich Asians cast is already set to return. Yahoo Entertainment reported in mid-October that Constance Wu will reprise her role as Rachel Chu, Henry Golding will return as Nick Young, and Ronny Chieng will come back as Nick's cousin.
Harry Shum Jr. sits at the centre of both franchises. He played Mike Chang on Glee and Charlie Wu in the film, which was directed by Jon M. Chu. He also appeared in a mid-credits scene, the extra clip shown after the film's credits, that hinted at a love story between Charlie and Astrid, played by Gemma Chan.
Shum is also currently taking part in Dancing with the Stars, the television dance competition. He told Entertainment Weekly that he loves both the Glee and Crazy Rich Asians franchises. He said he would love to find a way to make a return to Crazy Rich Asians work. He added that he is very busy at the moment but hopes to keep working on both.
For viewers, the news is simple: two familiar worlds are heading back to television. For the people who make the shows, a series order is the first step. It means a network or streamer has committed to making episodes, and the rest of the work, from casting to scripts to filming, follows from there.
Until the talks close and the networks announce details, the names above are still in negotiation or, in Shum's case, a hope he has voiced publicly.
