Jimmy Fallon and Jamie Lee Curtis Turn Elizabeth Holmes Into a Tonight Show Sketch

Jimmy Fallon played Nathan Fielder, and Jamie Lee Curtis played Elizabeth Holmes, in a parody of the documentary You Can See Everything on this week's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The sketch ran as the show's cold open, the comedy bit that opens an episode before the main show gets going. Fallon copied the questioning style of Fielder, the American comedian and documentary maker, from the film's teaser. He asked Curtis, "Be honest, do you really want to be on the show tonight?"
Curtis answered in Holmes's soft, measured voice: "Of course I do. I love talking to you." Fallon then teased that she was not only there to promote her new show, Newlyweds. Curtis dropped the character after Fallon gave her some privacy, with an expletive-filled line about him. Deadline reported the exchange.
The documentary itself is directed by Lance Oppenheim and distributed by A24. It follows Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of the blood-testing company Theranos, who is now in prison after being convicted of fraud. Deadline reported that the film has passed $45 million worldwide as A24 widens its release.
The sketch is a reminder that the film's subject and its style have found a second audience on late-night television. Fallon's impression of Fielder's deadpan questions was the joke, and the laughs came from Curtis matching his pace.
Curtis has also made a point of her relationship with the show's host. Earlier this year, Yahoo reported that she had asked Fallon, in a public exchange, "Why have you rejected me?" after years of not being invited on his programme. Wednesday's appearance was her time on the couch, and it came with a sketch attached.
The episode also featured Jamie Campbell Bower and ANGELE as guests, and the cold open was built around the Holmes role rather than a standard interview. Fallon and Curtis kept the bit short, and the rest of the show moved on to its usual lineup.
For viewers, the takeaway is simple. A documentary that has been in cinemas is now part of a talk show's comedy, and the two were linked by a single parody performance.
