Hull FC sign Warrington prop Max Wood on season-long loan

Hull FC have signed Warrington Wolves prop Max Wood on a season-long loan for the 2027 Super League season. The deal brings the 22-year-old back to a club he already knows, after two short spells there last season.
A prop is one of the big forwards who packs down at the front of the scrum, the contest where two sets of forwards lock together and push against each other before the ball is fed in. Props also carry the ball into contact and make the tackles that stop the other side gaining ground. A season-long loan means Wood will play for Hull for the whole year while staying tied to his parent club, Warrington.
Hull FC announced the signing on 28 October. Warrington Wolves confirmed the move the same day.
Wood's first trip to Hull came in June 2026, when he joined on a month-long loan. He returned on another one-month loan in July. Across those two spells he made five appearances. He then went back to Warrington, and in August he was not in Hull's squad for their match against Castleford Tigers.
Warrington boss Sam Burgess did not rule out a longer move when asked about it in late August. He said the two clubs needed to have a discussion, and that is where the matter has now ended up.
Wood will also be working again with Steve McNamara, a former Warrington assistant coach, at Hull. The two have worked together before, which may help a young player settling into a new squad.
Wood is the ninth player to commit to Hull for next season. He joins Bailey Hodgson, Daly Cherry-Evans, Alrix Da Costa, Isaac Liu, Jordan Swann, Josh Coric, Junior Pauga and Connor Barley on the list.
For Wood, the next step is a full season rather than a few weeks at a time. Loan spells of that length give a player regular chances to play, and time to show what he can do in Super League.
