Philomena Cunk is heading to the cinema, and the first trailer for her new series is out. Variety reports that Cunk on Cinema debuts on 15 November on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two, and on Netflix in every country outside the UK and Ireland on the same day.

Diane Morgan plays Cunk, the earnest interviewer whose questions tend to go somewhere unexpected. Morgan and Charlie Brooker created the character together. They are both executive producers, the people who oversee a show's direction and budget, alongside Jessica Rhoades and Sam Ward. Al Campbell directs.

The six episodes run about 15 minutes each. In them, Cunk meets 23 experts to talk about the history of film. The trailer features Michael Bay, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Kermode and Mark Cousins among them. Jim Al-Khalili and Ashley Jackson also return.

The BBC has described the series as one in which Cunk puts hard-hitting questions to experts about the history of cinema. It first shared a first-look picture of Morgan in character in September, a still image released before a series airs. Earlier, in April, the BBC confirmed that Morgan and Brooker had reunited for the project.

For viewers in the UK and Ireland, the series will be found on the BBC's own channel and app. Elsewhere, the same six episodes will sit on Netflix. Both homes open on the same date, so audiences in different countries can start at the same time.

Cunk has a long record of being a character people return to, and this series keeps the same format of a serious subject treated with a very straight face. The trailer gives a first taste of that. The full run arrives on 15 November, and the trailer is the first public look at the finished product.
