Junior Boys have announced a new album, The Gore, their first in five years. It is scheduled for release on 12 February 2027 through City Slang, and the duo of Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus unveiled it alongside its lead single, "Underneath the Moon". Clash Music confirmed the five-year gap between records.

The single is the album's first song to be heard, the track chosen to introduce the record. According to Pitchfork, Greenspan said the song was inspired by Skinamarink, the 2022 horror film. He also said he used old tape loop techniques, run through an old Tascam tape machine, to create the song's effects. The video was directed by the artist John Smith.

Greenspan has described the album's background in personal terms. It was written over several years, after the deaths of his father and a close friend. He calls The Gore a twin to its predecessor, Waiting Game, meaning the two records are closely linked in sound and mood.

The album runs to 11 songs, in this order: "Funny How Time Slips Away", "Night Service", "The Tabernacle", "Hineni", "Underneath the Moon", "Holding Back Secrets", "Ligeia", "Kill Baby Kill", "Yizkor", "The Gore" and "Randman Blues".

Fans in three cities will get an early listen. Junior Boys have scheduled album playbacks in Brooklyn, Seattle and Toronto early next year, meaning a public listening session where the full record is played to an audience. Each event opens with screenings of the film Wavelength and closes with a question-and-answer session with Greenspan.

Anyone wanting a copy before release can already pre-order it. City Slang lists Junior Boys – The Gore in the pre-order section of its official news page, where buyers pay ahead of release day and receive the album when it ships.
