Curry Barker Premieres Short Film Mama Bear Exclusively on YouTube

Curry Barker's first project since Obsession is now online, and it arrived exclusively on YouTube. The short film Mama Bear premiered there on October 29, 2026, at 8:30 AM, two days before Halloween.
Barker wrote, directed and edited the film, according to the video's YouTube page. It was announced only days earlier, in a partnership with Windows. The timing was built around the holiday, and the film went live in time for Halloween, as Variety reported.
Obsession was the film that made Barker's name beyond YouTube. Barker directed it and wrote it. According to Variety, the horror film has grossed $519 million worldwide, and it was made on a budget of less than $1 million. Michael Johnston plays the character Bear in it, and Inde Navarrette plays Nikki.
Before Obsession, Barker was already a familiar face on the platform. He rose to prominence acting and directing in YouTube videos, and his channel is branded "isaidOhWow." That path is part of why a short film could debut on the same site where he started.
The business side is moving too. Barker signed an eight-figure deal, meaning a contract worth at least $10 million, with Universal and Blumhouse. Navarrette, who played Nikki, has been cast as Rogue in Marvel's X-Men reboot.
Barker's next feature on the calendar is the horror-comedy Anything But Ghosts, set for release on May 7, 2027. Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster back the film. Barker directs it and co-wrote the script with Cooper Tomlinson, who also co-leads alongside Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul.
For now, the main thing to know is where to watch. Mama Bear lives on YouTube, and Barker's next big-screen release has a date on the calendar, roughly six months after the next Halloween season.
