Jack Grealish has been left out of Everton's squad for the club's home Carabao Cup tie against Newcastle United, after Everton said he had breached its discipline rules.

The club's official line was short. Everton said Grealish was "unavailable for selection due to a breach of club discipline", according to Sky Sports. The BBC reported the omission on 29 October 2026.

Club discipline means the rules a player agrees to follow, covering things like time-keeping, training and conduct. Breaches are usually handled inside the club, and they are not always explained in public. Everton did not say what Grealish's breach involved.

Everton manager David Moyes was asked about the absence and refused to expand on it. That leaves fans with the fact of the decision but not the reason for it.

The Carabao Cup is the league cup, a knockout competition where one defeat ends a club's run. Every squad selection in a tie like this is watched closely, and a player's absence is always noticed. For Everton, the match is one more chance to build momentum in a competition that offers a route to a major trophy.

Grealish's profile makes the news hard to miss. He became Britain's first £100m footballer when Manchester City signed him from Aston Villa in the summer of 2021. Since then, every move, injury and selection decision involving him has drawn attention well beyond the club he is playing for.

For supporters, the immediate question is simple. Will he be back in the squad for the next game, and will the club say more? Everton has not offered that detail so far, and the story now depends on what the club and the player decide to say next.
