Three people were killed on Thursday, October 29, when two helicopters collided in mid-air near McMinnville, Oregon, according to The Guardian.

The Yamhill County Sheriff's Office received reports at about 2:10 p.m. local time that two helicopters had crashed southeast of McMinnville, near McMinnville Municipal Airport. The wreckage was found in a private farm field. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the US aviation regulator, said the collision happened around 2:15 p.m. local time and identified the aircraft as a Robinson R22 and an Airbus H125. The Guardian reported the aircraft as a 1995 Robinson R22 and a 2018 Airbus AS 350B3, which is the model family the H125 belongs to.

Two people were aboard the Robinson R22 and one aboard the Airbus. One of the R22's occupants was a student pilot from the United Kingdom. The other was Maddie Aasbo, 22, a flight instructor from Texas. The pilot of the Airbus was Tyler Sturdevant, 38, of Newberg, Oregon.

Jerry Trimble Helicopters confirmed that one of its aircraft was involved in the incident near McMinnville Municipal Airport. The company did not, in the reporting, describe the circumstances of the flight.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the federal agency that investigates transportation accidents, will take charge of the investigation into the collision.

A highway near the crash site was closed following the collision, USA Today reported.
